Of Aamir Khan, Rahul Gandhi and A Little Less Meat
QUOTE OF THE DAY | ||||||||||
"India is my country, feel fortunate for being born here. Proud of being Indian, don't need anyone's permission for it." - Aamir Khan
What Aamir begins, Aamir ends
Another day fuelled by Aamir Khan madness. The Shiv Sena held a mock funeral for the Bollywood star in Lucknow. A few more snide remarks were passed on social media. Some chose to come out and support Aamir. But Aamir chose to end it all by releasing another carefully worded statement: First let me state categorically that neither I, nor my wife Kiran, have any intention of leaving the country. We never did, and nor would we like to in the future. Anyone implying the opposite has either not seen my interview or is deliberately trying to distort what I have said. India is my country, I love it, I feel fortunate for being born here, and this is where I am staying. Secondly, I stand by everything that I have said in my interview. Case closed. No one really had anything to say after that. In our book, that counts as a win for Aamir and the tolerant Indian. Jai Hind.

Dear Rahul Baba, Maybe The BJP Is Getting A Few Things Right Too
Rahul Gandhi would like to believe that the Bhartiya Janta Party is simply sucking the soul out of India. But students of Bengaluru's prestigious Mount Carmel College begged to differ. "Even though the BJP has come to power, I don't see a strategy. I don't see a clear direction. I see a lot of talk. I hear talk about clean your country. I mean, are we serious? Clean your country is a strategic national government programme. Well, it's not working, is it?" Gandhi asked a packed auditorium at the all-girls college. Gandhi clearly did not expect the response that followed. "Yes," the students cheered. "You see it working? Okay. I don't see Swachh Bharat working," Gandhi said in his defence. Unfortunately for him, he couldn't even claim the audience was paid or biased. But the incident did clear two misconceptions -- one, that despite the intolerance debate, it is clear to many that Modi is trying to hard sell India to the world. Two, he is at least trying to make India a better place through campaigns like Swachh Bharat, which is still seen as more than the Congress and its top leadership ever did.
Eat less meat, save the planet
In a huge boost for gau rakshaks all over India a UK-based think tank has concluded that eating less meat could actually help the planet fight against Global Warming. In February 2015, the American government had also released a paper which focused on similar aspects. Another recent study pointed out that the world's cows and pigs contain "hidden" emissions such as methane and nitrous oxide that contribute to the harmful buildup of greenhouse gas emissions in the atmosphere. The panel notes that global food production is responsible for 80 percent of the planet's deforestation, 70 percent of freshwater use and 30 percent of human-generated greenhouse gases. Those are big numbers; dangerous numbers and if the way forward is to just curb our diet a little then perhaps it isn't that difficult to do.
